If I smell that a provider is trying to appear equal in a category but really isn't, that's deception and that's a trust issue.įrom what I've read, some VPN providers claim to not keep user logs, but their claims may be questionable - why would you believe them without some substantiation of the claim? Now, if they are all equal except one is cheaper, easy decision. In fact, only Security and Anonymity are really important to me. But to ME, price isn't as important as the other three. So everyone that competes with market leaders (like Nord) is going to have to offer features to attract customers. The VPN market has only four selling points (basically): Price, Speed, Security, & Anonymity. So companies have been popping up all over the place. Over the past couple of years, VPN providers have seen a significant increase in competition. Why wouldn't you believe the audits? Do you have a reason to suspect collusion by NordVPN? Do you have reason to suspect that they're intentionally and nefariously misleading customers? Are they "shady" or "sketchy" somehow? In the movie JFK by Olliver Stone, a guy says to another "Aw, Jim, how do you know who your daddy is 'cept that's what your momma told ya". So "better" might be subjective, based on a person's needs. Which VPN providers would you say are better than NordVPN, and what features are you claiming as better? Also, please consider that I think a Jeep Grand Cherokee is a better vehicle than a Honda Civic. Do you mean there are better options for everyone or for you? In thinking about VPN providers, what's most important to you? For me, it's privacy. So what IS your "price" argument? How much better can you do? I'm not easily convinced that if I spend $1.00/month USD, that I would get better quality or privacy than I currently have. I have a 3-year agreement with NordVPN and pay $2.99/month USD. The notion of "better" aside for the moment, you've brought up cost twice. There are many better options beside NordVPN which are much better in every aspect (including cost) That said, I am interested in your view, if for no other reason, to educate myself. So my intention is to challenge for understanding. I have to think on that a while", rather than clinging to my convictions (save for precious few personal things, if I'm honest). I am known in the real world for saying things like "that's a good point, I haven't considered that. I often engage with others to ask why they think what they think - provide the data that led them to that conclusion. I respect that you may have a different opinion I'm the type of person that *can* be convinced if someone brings a compelling argument. So, it'd be hard to lose with either one, but I'm quite happy with Nord. Still, since its in Sweden, it's likely low risk in this category. Mullvad, based in Sweden also has a no-log policy, but there's no audit to confirm the claim. That last one is the MOST important to me personally - independently audited verification of no-logs. In November 2018, NordVPN claimed that its no-log policy was verified through an audit by PricewaterhouseCoopers AG. I've never used Mullvad, but I know that Nord has been around, and have a lot to lose from the standpoint of privacy if it's breached - it gets a lot of attention.Īs of April 2020, Mullvad's server list showed details for 587 server locations across 36 countries.Īs of October 2019, NordVPN was operating more than 5,200 servers in 62 countries. I've had NordVPN for over a year and get great speeds and they have my confidence for anonymity.
